The World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker (also known as WSOP) was launched nearly 40 years ago with its very first yearly poker tournaments, and has since seen an incredible growth of poker tournaments contestants, prize money and public interest. Until 2008, the youngest poker player ever to walk away with the World Series of Poker grand prize was the 1989 champion Phil Hellmuth Jr. who won his title and 755,000$ at the age of 24. Phil had to compete against 178 other entrants in the final rounds. Harrah has announced the decision to open poker academies which will help teach the skills necessary to compete in poker tournaments and perhaps become the next winner of the World Series of Poker. Phil Hellmuth has been conscripted to be one of the academy instructors.

The Youngest Ever Poker Tournament Winner

While Phil Hellmuth at 24 was the youngest poker player ever to win a World Series of Poker tournament, he won his place when the poker tournaments being held by the World Series of Poker were still at the beginning of their creation. Today's poker tournaments have significantly more contestants (about 40 times as many!) and the prize sum is appropriately larger (this years grand prize was nearly 10 million dollars with second place walking away with nearly 6 million dollars in his pocket!). This only serves to magnify even further the amazing achievement of this year's poker champion who is now the new youngest ever World Series of Poker champion. Kudos to Peter Eastgate of Denmark on his grand victory! Eastgate has rightfully earned title of champion after besting the nearly 7,000 other contestants in fair play. Aside from the title of champion and the golden bracelet which is awarded the poker champion, Eastgate walked away with 9.15 million dollars. Peter Eastgate has said that his predecessor, Phil Hellmuth served as an inspiration for him in achieving his goal.
